About the CFA Program
To become a CFA charterholder, candidates must pass a rigorous, three-part exam (Level I—Investment Tools, Level II—Asset Valuation and Level III—Portfolio Management) in addition to meeting work experience requirements, joining the CFA Institute, and signing a commitment to abide by the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct. On average, candidates spend approximately 1,000 hours studying the curriculum, exploring topics including ethical and professional standards, financial reporting and analysis, corporate finance, economics, quantitative methods, equity, fixed income, alternative investments, derivatives, portfolio management and wealth planning. Less than one in five candidates who begin the CFA Program successfully earn the CFA credential.
Currently, CFA Institute has more than 152,000 members in 163 countries and territories. This includes 145,000 CFA charterholders and 148 member societies.
